The Hummelstown Fire Department is unwavering in its commitment to providing the absolute best and most cutting-edge services to the people within our fire protection area. However, as technology advances, the traditional method of maintaining keys to alarmed buildings and residences has become increasingly impractical, causing unfortunate delays in our emergency responses.

To address this challenge and ensure swift access to buildings, minimize forced entry damage, and protect the safety of our firefighters, the Hummelstown Fire Department has enthusiastically adopted the Knox-Box Rapid Entry System.

Here are several compelling reasons behind our adoption of this innovative system and how it benefits not only our Law Enforcement agencies but also our local Emergency Services:

Rapid Response: In scenarios where alarms (fire, water flow, burglary) are triggered in unoccupied premises, time becomes of the essence. Waiting for a remote key holder, who might not be nearby, can significantly delay response efforts. The Knox-Box allows authorized personnel, such as Law Enforcement and Emergency Services, to swiftly gain entry and address the situation promptly.

Secure Storage: The Knox-Box offers a secure repository for essential items like master keys, access cards, alarm panel keys, elevator mechanical room keys, and contact information. This central hub expedites the resolution of various emergencies and situations.

Authorized Access: The Knox-Box is designed to be opened only by authorized Law Enforcement or Emergency Services Personnel, ensuring the security of its contents.

Presently, more than seven thousand fire departments and the communities they serve have benefited from this proven system. Knox-Boxes themselves are constructed with security in mind, comprising ¼" solid steel, a ½" steel door, and a reinforced locking mechanism. They are UL listed against physical attacks, and the Medeco security lock is patented and UL listed for drill, pick, and pull resistance.

It's important to note that the master key to open the Knox-Box is exclusively held by the Hummelstown Fire Department. This high-security key undergoes strict control measures and is produced solely by the Medeco factory under the direction of an authorized fire official's signature.

Upon installation near your property's entrance, our department secures your master keys, access cards, alarm panel keys, elevator mechanical room keys, and points of contact inside the Knox-Box. This ensures these vital resources are readily available on-site for future emergencies.

Should you have any questions or require further information, you may contact the Knox Company at 800-552-5669 or visit their website at www.knoxbox.com. Alternatively, feel free to reach out to our fire department at 717-566-8893 to obtain an order form and installation instructions.

Rest assured, the Hummelstown Fire Department is wholly committed to your safety and the preservation of your valuable investments.
